one, un, uno...

I wasn't a big fan of my birthday cake, even though it was a beautiful bear that reminded me of Chauncy Bear and was handmade by my Auntie Shan (and looked a whole lot better than the one my mom made me on my real birthday - and probably tasted a little better too). I didn't like the vanilla ice cream either. Guess I prefer my veggies and fruit!

Here's my awesome wagon that everyone went together and bought me for my first birthday. That makes me feel very special and loved. I love my new wheels! AND it converts to a sled. Won't I be the coolest toddler in all of Oakville? :) Well, maybe not, but my mom and dad told me I don't always have to be the coolest (or cutest, or smartest).

However you choose to say it, our daughter has reached that all-important (or so it seems) milestone: she is ONE!!!! We celebrated this "coming of age" on her birthday and on Sunday with many family and friends. Ro seems to really enjoy having "happy birthday" sung to her. Everyone chipped in and got her a wagon that converts into a sled. We are going to have many days of fun with this new mode of transportation!

Let's see - it feels like a long time since I've updated you all on how Ro is doing. Well, she is 35 inches long (97th percentile) and weighs 20 pounds (28th percentile) - yes, still a string bean. Her hair seems to be coming in at the back (that's attractive for a girl). We still don't know if it's going to be curly. We're definitely keeping our fingers crossed. She's up to 4 teeth on the bottom and 4 on the top. Those chompers can do damage if your fingers get in the way!

She is cruising all over and loving crawling. She stands by herself and then realizes what she is doing and sits down. Walking seems to be imminent. I'm pretty excited about this next phase. She chatters and babbles a lot - people tell me she is going to be quite vocal. I don't know where she gets that from! ;) She says "mama" and "dada" (I haven't heard her say "mama" in a long time) and now "Yack" for Jack, her favourite 4 year old. She just started making the "ssss" sound and is loving doing her new trick.

Ro loves going into the infants-crawlers class each Sunday at The Meeting House. She loves the volunteers, the toys, the other kids, the environment. We're so happy she enjoys it. She still manages to play strange with people she doesn't see very much, which can be disappointing, but is also understandable. Right now she is playing by herself in her room. She's learning that it's okay to be by yourself and play, read books, get into trouble, etc.

You'll also be able to see from the picture above, she didn't like either of her cakes, or ice cream. Maybe she isn't our child...... :) Never a dull moment in the Smith household!
