We don't watch a lot of TV. With Ben's work schedule and my general malaise towards programming and the physical requirement of a certain level of inactivity to watch, there isn't the desire to sit and watch. And yes, we are the parents who didn't introduce TV to Ro until she was 2. We just roll poke that. That being said, over the years there have been shows we have tried to follow: ER, Law and Order, House. Reality TV has never been a draw for us...
...until last night. The Leafs were up 4-0 (why do we still believe a 4 goal lead is safe?) so Ben began his manly ritual of flipping channels. *Sigh*. I.don't.heart.channel.surfing. It's disruptive, disjointed, leads to false hopes, and too ADHD for my liking. However, said channel surfing has led to some great finds. Enter last night's viewing delight. We stumbled upon a group of about 15 guys singing a song, acapella. It was good, very good, surprisingly good. Then the judges (Ben Folds, Sara Bareilles, and Shawn Stockman) said intelligent things, backed up with examples. The next group to sing was even better. Oh, Afro Blue..... Do you know what show I am swooning about? Yup, The Sing-Off. It was delightful, start to finish (minus Nick Lachey, who used to be married to Jessica Simpson) but I can show grace. :)
Music moves Ben and me. Tears are often shed, and not just by me. The Sing-Off did not disappoint. We cried, we laughed, our jaws dropped in awe and respect of the talent that we got to partake in, be moved by, be immersed in. We were reminded that we could download last night's performances on iTunes...so far I have shown restraint.
By the way, when we checked back on the Leafs, they scraped together a second victory, winning 6-5. Better than last year for sure - not only would they have blown a 4 goal lead, but then they would have proceeded to lose.
Here's to a new hockey season, and a show full of great music, amazing talent, and something worth tuning into on Saturday nights.
Headed to iTunes (so much for restraint),
Tam
