Okay, okay. I know this is long overdue. Well, I do have an excuse. I was sucked into the facebook craze, so I didn't bother to update our blog. You will be happy to know that I have seen the error in my ways, and am now blogging once again.
I thought I should bring you all up-to-date on our family changes. My last entry shared the fact that we found out our unborn child was to be a girl. We were due on November 24 so I took 2 weeks of holidays beginning November 1, and then started my one year mat leave on November 16. Funny thing - our daughter (yes, the ultrasound was bang on) wasn't born until December 3. I was to be induced that day, but after many people praying that I wouldn't have to be induced, Rowyn Flannery Smith joined the world at 5:42 am. I went into labour at midnight, which started with an upset stomach, or so I thought. After calling the hospital at 2:00 am, we decided to go in to be checked, and then come home. Well, when I was examined at 3:00 am, I was 8 cm dilated! I wasn't going anywhere! The doctor asked me if I wanted drugs, and decided to go natural. I'm so glad we decided this. The doctor broke my bag of waters, and before I knew it, it was time to push. That's when I freaked out. However, a kind nurse talked me through the pushing, and after about 6 pushes, Rowyn was entered the world weighing a whopping 9 pounds, 8 ounces, and measuring 22 inches long (the same length as me at birth).
Rowyn has definitely changed our lives.....for the better! She has been an extremely happy, content baby, who has been very aware from the get go. Ro is an excellent feeder, sleeper, and is very mobile. She started sleeping through the night at about 3 months of age and we haven't looked back since. The only bummer is that she won't take a bottle, but I don't mind the snuggle time with her! We love every minute with her, whether we are singing, dancing, reading, walking, or just talking to each other. Ben has taken some AMAZING photos of her and I'll be sharing them on this blog.
I've included a picture of her, 1 week old. Her wave shows just how social she was, and continues to be. I guess she might get this from her mother (or so I'm told). We are so thankful for Rowyn's safe delivery and continued health. We feel incredibly blessed to have such a beautiful, healthy, happy little girl, and also feel the awesome responsibility of being parents. We wouldn't trade this adventure for anything! MAKE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE VIDEO AT THE BOTTOM - IT SHOWS PICS OF RO'S FIRST 3 MONTHS OF LIFE!
