1. Both Ben and I knew we were pregnant, before any test confirmed it.
2. I felt quite tired and "not well" for the first trimester.
3. My boobs have grown. It's true.
4. I already have 1 child whom I adore.
5. I am under the care of midwives, and not a doctor. This is a very exciting difference for me.
6. I haven't been hospitalized for excruciating pain like last time (long weekend, out of town).
7. At my 20 week ultrasound, it was discovered that I have placenta previa.
What is that you might be asking? It is when the placenta covers (to some degree) the opening of the cervix, where the baby comes out. There are 4 degrees of previa - touching, partial, half, total coverage. Total coverage is the least common.....and it is what I have. There are certain precautions I have had to take. I have had to avoid anything strenuous or rigourous. I have to take it easy. What??!! Take it easy? But I have pretty much managed to do so.
I have tried to keep "negative" thoughts in check. I have tried to think little about premature labour, bleeding, bed rest, etc. However, if I am being honest, such thoughts have prevented me from thinking about our precious little girl. But, I am starting to get excited about her and her impending arrival. I started to read one of my favourite books tonight about the first 3 months. Her bedroom is getting a little more organized this weekend with a trip to IKEA for a closet organizer.
My next ultrasound is on October 5. We'll see where my placenta lies then and what the following weeks will bring. :)
